Day 27 - Wouter’s Birthday

This morning Auke went mountain biking with the guys, while Ali watched the kids. Auke went biking for about 2 hours. Even though they say Holland is flat, there was still quite a lot of hills to make it fun.

The girls had fun playing with Ollie and Genevieve while they waited for Auke to get back.

When Auke got home, we got ready to go to Wouter’s birthday, had lunch, and then left at around 1.30pm to head to Wellerwaard. On the way, we had to stop for them lifting up the bridge. They were letting a boat through.

This place was very pretty - there was a big lake to swim in (if you don’t mind freezing water) and there were kids playgrounds. Some of Auke’s cousins went swimming so Auke took the girls swimming too.

Afterwards they warmed up with a towel and some chips. Thankfully the sun was out!

At about 4.45pm, we all drove to Mcdonalds for dinner - apparently it is tradition that Wouter goes to Mcdonalds every birthday.
The McDonalds had a sign up reminding us that we were in Friesland. We all went inside just as it started raining. We placed an order that was massive - there were about 30 of us!

Ali finally got to try the McKroket burger and was pleasantly surprised. It was literally just a kroket on a bun with some mustard, but it was delicious.

After dinner we drove home and put the kids to bed. Ali headed to Angus and Anne Roos’ place to play some games and Auke stayed home.

Here are a few photos that have been left out on another post - we went to Oma and Opa’s house for coffee and got some cute photos with the kids. It was hilarious when Gena fell into the bush - the poor girl wasn’t impressed but we couldn’t stop laughing.

Also some photos of us taking the girls for a bike ride - one on the front of Auke’s bike and one on the back. Ali wasn’t a confident enough rider to take them on her bike. They loved it!
