Day 32 - Gameren & Slot Loevenstein
24.07.2019
22 °C
Today we drove to Gameren to see where Dieuwe and Anne Roos were born, and Auke grew up.
We left around 9.00am and drove for about an hour. The first thing we did was visit Tante - a friend of the de Boer’s who used to watch Auke, Dieuwe and Anne Roos when they were kids.
We stayed at Tante’s for a coffee and looked at some old photos of last time they visited her. We also sat outside in the sunshine for a while as it was a really nice day. Tante even spoiled the kids with some icecream.

We said goodbye, and our next stop was to see the house the de Boer’s used to live in. Their neighbours are still the same as when they lived there, so they came out and said hello! There was a pretty plant there so Ali snapped some pictures of the girls.

Next, we drove to another house they lived in.

We quickly stopped at a local bakery to grab some lunch, and then we started our drive to Slot Loevenstein which is an old castle that William of Orange had fortified. The surrounding area was very pretty!

This was a fantastic place to visit with kids. You could pretend to make gunpowder, you could fire laser guns at targets, you could pretend to fire a cannon, and you could dress up in the old clothes while you explored the castle.

The castle was huge and was almost like a maze with multiple ways to get up and down, and rooms within rooms within rooms.

We had a lot of fun dressing up!

Eventually it was time to go home. We stopped at Dominos on the way home for some dinner with Gus and Anne Roos, and then we shared pizzas and played some games.
