Day 34 - Oma & Opa’s 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

rain 21 °C

Today was the day we got to celebrate Oma and Opa’s 50th wedding anniversary! This was the main reason for our trip to Europe so it was a very special day!

In the morning, Auke went to a spin class with Dirk-Jan while Ali got the kids ready.

At 10.30am, we headed over to Oma and Opa’s for family photos. All of us had put money towards the photos as a present to them. It made it very interesting as it kept raining so we were getting soaked and had to keep running for cover.

After the photos were finished, we all headed home. Titus went for a nap and the girls played with Ollie and Gena. Ida watched the kids while Ali and Auke went out to the shop to stock up on Dutch food to take home. This was our last chance to buy it as we were heading to Friesland on Monday.

We ended up buying so much that Auke used the luggage trolley to cart it from the car back to our bungalow. The whole way he walked, soup packets were flying off the back of the trolley. It was funny to watch!

When we got home, we saw that Opa had stopped in to say hi to Ida and was giving Titus his bottle which was cute.

We spent the afternoon starting to pack suitcases. At 4.15pm we drove to the dinner celebration for Oma and Opa’s 50th. They had paid for a nice dinner with all the family. We caught up with all the family again and the girls played with their cousins.

The first thing we did was all have cake and coffee and tea. Mila was fascinated that you could eat the writing on the icing.

The dinner was really delicious - there was a buffet with heaps of different options! The satay chicken was our favourite.

Oma and Opa got their present from the family which was a framed picture of all of us from the photo shoot this morning.

Titus was very tired so Ida found a room that he could sleep in - he surprisingly slept well in there!

When it was dessert time, they lit sparklers on the table!

Eventually it was time to go. With the exception of Oma and Opa, this was the last time we were going to see the family so we said goodbye to everyone.

All the kids were given gift bags as we left which led to big excitement!

We left, drove home and crashed into bed!

Here are some pictures of the girls playing with their cousins that were missed on another blog post:
